Uganda Premier League surprises so far
From the newcomers dominating affairs to the fading giants, the Uganda Premier League has not been without surprises with seven games so far played.
Newcomers show the way
The new season of the Uganda topflight league has seen newcomers dominate affairs with Hoima based Kitara FC and NEC terrorizing everyone in the league.
Seated in the second position, Kitara FC has won five of the seven games they have played so far and are on 15 points.
During this stellar run, the new league comers from Hoima started off with beating record champions SC Villa 2-1, UPDF and Gadaffi before walloping 13 time league champions, KCCA FC.
Kitara also beat Wakiso Giants before the club from the oil city of Hoima before they were brought back to earth by Prisons side, Maroons FC that humbled them one nil.
Another stellar performance from the newcomers if by NEC FC, the team for the National Enterprise Corporation (NEC) a state-owned corporation which is also the commercial arm of the Ministry of Defence and the UPDF, the Ugandan army.
Just like fellow newcomers, Kitara, NEC FC is also flying high in fourth position, having lost only two games of the six they have so far played and are at 12 points.
The novices in the Uganda Premier League have beaten Jinja SSS, Mbarara City, UPDF and KCCA FC before unfortunately falling to SC Villa and Gaddafi FC.
Sleeping giants
In another surprise, 13-time Uganda Premier League champions, KCCA FC have continued to struggle in their bid to regain their past glory.
In the seven games so far played, KCCA FC have collected four points and before their victory over Vipers, they were at the rock bottom of the Uganda Premier League table.
During this period, the club nicknamed Kasasiro has lost to Maroons FC, Express FC, newcomers Kitara FC, NEC FC and BUL FC before drawing with Arua Hill FC.
During this spell, KCCA FC have shipped in 12 goals and scored four in return.
This dry spell at Lugogo has seen the club sack Portuguese coach, Sergio Daniel Moniz Traguil after only four months in charge.
The new season has seen a club that represented the country on the continent in the CAF Confederation Cup after finishing second the previous season go to fighting for survival.
