Uganda’s Rugby Cranes win Africa Cup

The Uganda Rugby Cranes 7s have won their fourth Africa Men’s 7s title in Mauritius.

On the road to the finals, Uganda beat Tanzania, Burkina Faso and Ivory Coast in the group stages before setting up dates with Zambia and Zimbabwe in the quarter finals and semifinals respectively.

The East African nation emerged victorious.

Uganda stormed the finals where they played South Africa at the Labourdonnais Sports Club in Mauritius.

The Rugby Cranes 7s edged South Africa 20-17 in a hard-fought final that ensured Uganda’s place at the top of the tournament standings, having accumulated a total of 38 points over two rounds, more than any other contender could achieve.

The Rugby Cranes 7s have now claimed the Africa Men’s 7s title for the fourth time in their history, becoming the most successful side after Kenya who won it six times.

The triumph also means the Rugby Cranes 7s have secured a coveted spot in the 2025 Challenger Series, a pathway to the prestigious 7s World Series.

First Lady, Janet Museveni who is also the Education and Sports Minister congratulated the team upon the success achieved.

“Huge applause to all of you for showing incredible resilience until the end. Your determination is absolutely admirable. Congratulations to you and the coaches, and many the Lord bless your amazing achievement,” she said.
