Uganda’s Eddie Kenzo nominated for prestigious Grammy Awards
Ugandan youthful singer, Edrisa Musuuza, aka Eddy Kenzo has been nominated for this year’s prestigious Grammy Awards.
Kenzo was nominated for his Gimme Love, a song in which he featured with American singer, Matt B in the category of the best global music performance in the 65th annual Grammy Awards, which will be handed out on February 5, 2023 in Los Angeles.
“We are so grateful to God almighty for such a great moment in our country. Fellow artists thank you; this is for all of us. Uganda, thank you for raising me. East Africa stand up,” Kenzo said after the news of the nomination.
The Ugandan singer in 2015 became the first East African artiste to win the Black Entertainment Television (BET) award after taking the Viewer’s Choice Best New International Artiste’ accolade at a function held in Los Angeles, US.
Successful concert
The nomination came days after the singer proved that he is a force to reckon with in Uganda’s entertainment industry, having staged a successful concert.
Dubbed the Eddy Kenzo festival, the concert at Lugogo saw revelers throng Kololo independence ground as early as 10am, not even the heavy downpour on the Saturday morning could stop them from coming in big numbers.
The concert saw musicians like David Lutalo, Fresh Kid, Big Eye, Geosteady, Levixone, Fik Fameica, Bebe Cool, Nina Roz and Spice Diana curtain raise ahead of the big drum.
The main man hit the stage at around 10pm as he sang a number of his earlier day songs in a live session that left fans wanting for more.
Kenzo was later joined on stage by Jose Chameleone as they sang together a couple of songs before ushering in Prime Minister Robinah Nabbanja who was the guest of honour on the night.
Nabbanja caused frenzy when she splashed money towards the audience in appreciation for supporting Eddy Kenzo.
“I want to thank Kenzi for remaining loyal to the common man just like me. The peace for people to enjoy themselves is what NRM stands for. As government we have injected a lot of money to help youths all over the country,” she said before she left the stage.
Another round
After the guest of honour had left the stage, Kenzo returned for yet another round as he entertained fans who had thronged Kololo in large numbers.
Here hits like Stamina, Enjoyment, a collabo with Rickman rick, Sango that he sang with Martha Mukisa, Zivuga, Bibawo, Semyekozo and Tweyagala among others threw fans into excitement as they sang and dance along the live performance by Kenzo.
The singer summed up the concert with his Weekend song as he gave opportunity to his fans to sing along him as they enjoyed the live performance.
For the many revelers, the Eddy Kenzo festival was a concert to remember.
