Activities to enjoy, places to go to this festive season

With the festive season upon us, it is time to celebrate the joys of life and rather than wallow in misery, for there is a lot to be thankful for.

That is why you should look forward to visiting interesting places to cool off.

Here are some recommendations of places you can go to or activities to engage in this festive season.

Entebbe zoo

Commonly known as Entebbe Zoo, the Uganda wildlife Education Center (UWEC)  is a place where families can go to for a more rewarding experience not only with the animals but also to enjoy the cool breezes of the largest fresh lake in Africa, Victoria.

The zoo is a perfect place for families to bond during luncheons, feed some of the animals but also take photos as you walk through corridors of cages with animals.

National parks

This festive season, one can also choose to explore one of the 10 national parks including Queen Elizabeth, Lake Mburo, Murchison Falls, Kidepo Valley, Kibale, Mount Elgon, Rwenzori Mountains, Semuliki, Mgahinga Gorilla, and Bwindi Impenetrable National Parks that Uganda has in the different parts of the country.

Either you can choose to go visit the tree climbing lions in Queen Elizabeth, the impala in Lake Mburo, the world’s strongest falls in Murchison or the true gem with huge abundance in wildlife in Kidepo among the different wild life creatures to marvel about in Uganda’s national parks.

The national parks provide a destination with an environment that draws you nearer to nature as you marvel at God’s creations during the festive season.

There is abundant wildlife including chimpanzees, gorillas, rare bird species, monkeys and many other things to marvel at that this country offers.

Jinja city

Found in the eastern part of the country and on the shores of Lake Victoria, Jinja is home to the source of the Nile, the longest river in the world measuring 6,650 km.

In Jinja, you can visit Itanda Falls also known for its white-water rapids, Samuka Island which is home to birdlife, including little egrets, cultural tours, tubing the Nile , white water rafting on the Nile, sightseeing trip on Lake Victoria and the Nile and enjoying zip lining on top of the Nile.

Mabira forest

Along the way to Jinja is Mabira Forest found between Jinja and Lugazi and covers approximately 300 square kilometres.

Here you will experience the Mabira Forest canopy but also go through ancient trees across a network of five zip-lines that stretch 250 metres across River Musamya.

You can either choose to spend a night in the many lodges in the forest or continue with your way to Jinja or decide to return home but all are fun.

Ssese Islands

An archipelago of 84 islands in the northwestern part of Lake Victoria in Uganda, Ssese provides yet another destination with mouthwatering experiences.

The white sand beaches, hotels and boat rides on African’s largest fresh water lake, Victoria are some of the experiences not to miss out while in Ssese this festive season.

The village

Another way and place to enjoy the festive season is to go the village to join loved ones, bond with family members but also relive the good old times that you once enjoyed.

The village is another place to relax and shed off the stress that comes with the day to day work.

Sipi Falls

In the eastern part of the country is Sipi Falls which presents yet another destination with a lot of experiences during this festive season.

Here, the major activity is abseiling along the side of the main 100 metres high Sipi Falls and descend on a vertical drop using a rope.

You can also hike around the area to enjoy views of nature at its best.
