CNN names Uganda among best countries to travel to in 2023
Global news channel CNN has named Uganda among the best countries to travel to in 2023.
Giving the 23 best travel destinations in the new year, CNN says change is brewing in Uganda’s travel offerings at the moment with the East African country looking beyond the traditional staples of safari and wildlife spotting to appeal to both regional and international visitors.
“From the expansive shores of Lake Victoria to the snowy Rwenzori Mountains, Uganda is a beautiful wilderness playground, with opportunities for adventure including treks through the Bwindi Impenetrable Forest or up to the craters of the Virunga volcano chain or whitewater rafting along the Victoria Nile,” CNN says.
“There’s also an emphasis on connecting visitors with Ugandan communities — promising tastes of Ugandan food, music and culture. Last year saw the launch of the Uganda Cycling Trail, a 1,600-kilometer mainly unpaved 22-stage route designed to appeal to all levels of cyclist from hardcore solo bike packers to fully-guided easy riders.”
The Uganda Tourism Board(UTB) last year launched a realigned brand identity in which it seeks to market Uganda as a country with rare and precious range of tourism but all in one place.
Following the opening of the economy, Uganda has done all it can to rejuvenate tourism which was badly hit by the Covid pandemic and its effects like the lockdown.
Uganda is home to an array of bucket list experiences that in combination can’t be experienced in any other one country on earth.
These include the Big 5 + 2 (Elephant, Rhino, Buffalo, Lion, Leopard, Gorilla and Chimpanzee) safari and primate experiences, boat cruises on the Nile River and fresh water bodies and a myriad of adventure activities such as white-water rafting, bungee jumping and mountaineering to name a few.
Measuring 241,040 square kilometers, Uganda is also known as the Pearl of Africa due to its diverse natural endowments and is home to the largest collection of tribes (64) and dialects per square inch.
Uganda also controls 39% of Africa’s biodiversity whereas it also has 50% of Africa’s bird species and more birds than the entire North America.
