Ugandan youngster Ikwaput returns home to join Kampala Queens
Ugandan female footballer, Fazila Ikwaput has returned home to join FUFA Women Super League Champions Kampala Queens.
The 27-year-old Crested Cranes striker joined Kampala Queens on a two-year contract from Cyprus’ Omonia Nicosia after snubbing Tanzania’s Simba Queens and Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies in South Africa who were all yearning for her signature.
“I’m excited to join Kampala Queens. This is more of family because majority of the players are on the national team and I have played with them before. I hope together with my teammates we can deliver the desired target of playing at the CAF Women’s Champions League final tournament,”Ikwaput said.
She has previously played for Olila High School and Lady Doves both in Uganda as well as Kerala Blasters in India and BIIK Kazygurt in Kazakhstan.
Ikwaput was last year nominated for the CAF Women’s Player of the Year Award for her stellar performance at CECAFA.
She had earlier guided her team and Masindi based Lady Doves Football Club to their maiden league title where she was the joint top scorer in the FUFA Women Super League with 16 goals.
She guided the club to the CECAFA region CAF Champions League qualifiers where the team was eliminated at semifinals in Nairobi but she had four goals to her name.
On the national team, Ikwaput guided the Crested Cranes to their first ever CECAFA Women championship with six goals in the tournament and emerged the Most Valuable Player of the tournament held in Uganda.
