Cheptegei is world’s undisputed king in the 10,000m race
Ugandan long-distance runner, Joshua Cheptegei has once again proved he is the world’s fastest man over longer distances in the just concluded World Athletics Championships in Budapest, Hungary.
Clocking a time of 27.51.42 seconds, the 26-year-old produced a magisterial display to win gold in the men’s 10000m finals after beating Kenya’s Daniel Ebenyo who claimed silver with a time of 27:52.60.
Cheptegei’s gold medal at the World Athletics Championships in Budapest was his third in a row in the 10,000m race. He also became the fourth man in history to win three consecutive 25-lap world titles after Ethiopian greats Haile Gebrselassie and Kenenisa Bekele, who both won four, and Britain’s Mo Farah.
The Ugandan runner who has the 10,000m and 5000m world record had previously won gold in 2022 in Oregon race and in Doha in 2019.
“I am very excited and proud that I have succeeded in winning my third world title in a row. This was the best possible way to end the season. This might be my last championships on the track. That’s why this gold medal means even more,” Cheptegei said.
