Nakivubo stadium set for music, sports extravaganza at official opening
It will be a fusion of music and sports on June, 1, 2024 for the official opening ceremony of Nakivubo Stadium.
The stadium that was closed in 2016 has seen extensive renovations under a private-public partnership , done by businessman Hamis Kiggundu and will officially be reopened by a football match between Kitara Football Club from Hoima and tax collectors, Uganda Revenue Authority Football Club.
The game will test the suitability of the pitch to host games.
In another event on the day, there will be a ten round national boxing title fight between Isaac Zebra Ssenyange Jr and Abas Sseguya.
Speaking to journalists ahead of the bout, Ssenyange said he will be eyeing maintenance of his 100% winning record, with sights on the African title in future.
“I am hyped to be fighting at the new Hamz Stadium and look forward to showcasing my skills. Maintaining my winning streak is crucial as I aim for bigger challenges, including an African title,” Ssenyange stated.
In another thrilling match, pioneer Ugandan kickboxer, Moses Golola will face off with and Umar Semata.
The fight will be a rematch of the 2019 bout in which Golola knocked out Semata on technical grounds at Freedom City along Entebbe highway.
This time round, Semata who has previously had two fights in Beijing China will be seeking to take a sweet revenge against Golola at the new ground in Nakivubo.
“I am in my best shape and this time I am going to silence Golola,” Semata said.
Music festival
The grand opening will climax with a music festival with a star-studded lineup.
Alien Skin, Spice Diana, Bebe Cool, Sheebah Karungi, Eddy Kenzo, David Lutalo, Fik Fameica, and Rema Namakula among others will grace the occasion as the grand opening of Nakivubo promises to be a sports and entertainment extravaganza.
