Impressive start to AFCON qualifiers boosts Uganda’s FIFA ranking
Uganda has made notable progress on the international stage following their recent performances in the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers.
Uganda has secured four points in the opening two AFCON 2025qualifying games.
Uganda secured a two all draw before overcoming Congo Brazaville in their second position to take a pole position in Group K.
The latest FIFA world rankings have reflected this stellar performance after Uganda registered an improvement of five positions from the 95th to 90th.
Being 90th means Uganda is ranked above all nations in the Council of East and Central Africa Football Associations (CECAFA) region, with Tanzania coming second in 110th position.
Kenya, Sudan, Rwanda , Burundi, Ethiopia and South Sudan follow respectively.

The ranking show that in Africa, Morocco is leading, with Senegal, Egypt, Ivory Coast, Tunisia, Nigeria, Algeria, Cameroon , Mali and D.R. Congo being the top 10 ranked nations .
The rankings show Uganda is ranked 19th in Africa, above Zambia, and Equatorial Guinea, Guinea Bissau and Togo among the nations which are frequent participants in the African Nations Cup, the continent’s most elite football tournament.
Uganda will next month play South Sudan in a double header in the AFCON 2025 qualifiers.
There are 48 competing teams in the AFCON 2025 qualifiers split into 12 groups of four, with the top two in each group reaching the finals in Morocco.
Ivory Coast are the defending champions.
