Eddy Kenzo vows to make his presidential appointment count

Celebrated Ugandan artist Edirisa Musuuza, popularly known as Eddy Kenzo, has expressed his commitment to making the most of his recent appointment as Senior Presidential Advisor on Creatives. The appointment, made by President Yoweri Museveni, is a significant recognition of the creative industry’s contribution to Uganda’s development, according to the award-winning singer.

Kenzo, whose rise from humble beginnings to international stardom has been an inspiration to many, believes that his new role is not just a personal achievement but a victory for the entire creative sector in Uganda. “I thank the President because it shows that he has started recognizing the creative industry,” Kenzo said, reflecting on the importance of his appointment. “This appointment means creatives now have a window they can use to air out their grievances and to pass on useful information to the President.”

The singer, known for hits like “Sitya Loss” and “Tweyagale,” emphasized that his role is to bridge the gap between creatives and the government, ensuring that their voices are heard and their concerns addressed. Kenzo highlighted the broader implications of his appointment, particularly for young people across the country who aspire to succeed in the creative arts.

“My appointment brings hope to the youths out there,” Kenzo noted, stressing that it serves as a reminder that significant positions are not reserved for only the privileged. “You only have to behave well and be organized because time will come when you will get recognized. Life is what you make it.”

Kenzo’s journey, marked by perseverance and resilience, serves as a powerful example to many young Ugandans. He believes that his new role is an opportunity for creatives to unite and push for their rights collectively. “It is now upon creatives to come together as musicians, drummers, composers, producers, actors, and actresses, among others, to have a common voice,” he urged.

The singer’s appointment marks a new chapter for Uganda’s creative industry, offering a platform for artists to directly communicate with the highest levels of government. Kenzo expressed his readiness to ensure that the views of young people, especially those in the creative sector, reach the President and other authorities for redress.

“I am ready to make sure that the concerns of the youths, particularly the creatives, are known to the right people and that they are heard at last,” Kenzo said. He called on all creatives to unite in this new era, urging them to seize the opportunity to make their concerns known and to advocate for the changes they wish to see.

Kenzo’s appointment is seen as a positive step towards greater inclusion of the creative industry in national development plans, and his proactive approach signals a promising future for Uganda’s artists and entertainers. As he steps into his new role, the singer is determined to be a voice for the voiceless, ensuring that the creative industry continues to thrive and contribute to the nation’s growth.
