King Charles recognises three Ugandans at reception to celebrate UK’s Commonwealth Diaspora

Three Ugandans in the United Kingdom have been recognised by King Charles at a reception he hosted at St. James’s Palace, London.

They were recognized for their contribution to the UK in the various sectors.

Moses Mulimira was recognised for his contribution through the UK’s National Health Service to the Uganda UK Health Alliance) while William Mutenza (recognized for his involvement in organising the annual UK Africa Business Summit which bridges business across Uganda, Africa, the Middle East and the UK.

Primrose Segala, a Ugandan nurse in the UK’s National Health Service was feted for her work. She specialises in diabetic optometry.

The three Ugandans were among the 300 guests that received honours from the king ahead of the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting in Samoa in November.

Present at the reception was Lord Jitesh Gadhia, originally from Jinja, recognised for his prominent involvement with the British Asian Trust.

Other attendees at the reception were the Duchess of Edinburgh, the Duke of Kent, Baroness Scotland, Secretary General of the Commonwealth, and David Lammy, the UK Foreign Secretary.

The Ugandan guests joined other representatives from organisations associated with the Commonwealth, as well as supporters of the King’s Trust International and the British Asian Trust.

The two charities were founded by King Charles (when he was still Prince of Wales) and operate in the Commonwealth.

Nimisha Jayant Madhvani, Uganda’s High Commissioner to the UK said Ugandan diaspora in the United Kingdom, including Ugandan Asians, comprise some 200,000 people, both Ugandan citizens and those of close Ugandan ancestry.

“I am pleased that we were so strongly represented at Their Majesties’ Reception in London prior to their travelling to Samoa in November for the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting,” she said.
