Revelers gear up to have fun at this year’s Nyege Nyege festival
The Nyege Nyege festival has been vilified in some circles as a festival that has accelerated moral decay among the youth. For many others, it has been hailed as the biggest annual celebration of Uganda’s cultural diversity which brings in the much needed foreign revenue from tourists.
Yet whatever side of the argument you are on, you cannot ignore the annual festival that is usually held in November in Uganda’s eastern town of Jinja.
This year’s festival is slated to begin on November 9 to 12 at the source of the Nile in Jinja.
Word from the organizers is that the tickets are already sold out, never mind that a ticket was going for a mind boggling $120 (roughly Shs 450,000).
As usual there will be a lot of music, drinking, partying and fun games that will keep revelers on their feet and give them a true taste of Uganda.
According to the organisers, this year’s Nyege Nyege will include a full line-up of international DJs such as: Tash LC, Menzi, De Schuurman, Sarra Wild, DJ Marcelle, and more.
There will also be major acts from Uganda and Kenya, including headliners Mejja and Trio Mio.
Local artistes scheduled to perform at the festival include: Eddy Kenzo, Apass, Janzi Band, and Karole Kasita.
Those appearing on the line-up this year hail from all over Africa and beyond, including Tanzania, South Africa, Malawi, Ghana, Algeria, South Sudan, Mauritius, Saint Lucia, and further afield.
These artistes will perform across the festival’s nine stages stretching across the source of the River Nile, offering boat trips and water activities from the festival site and food experiences within the Nyege Nyege grounds.
This year’s festival will also have wellness programs with yoga and fitness experiences, a theatre showcasing the best of African cinema, and the Nyege East African Emporium featuring brands and creatives from the region.
So if you have not grabbed your ticket by now, you could miss out!
