Uganda continues with strong performance at 2024 Paris Olympics
Uganda was one of the top African performers at the just concluded 2024 Olympics games in Paris, France.
With only 12 African countries participating reaching the medal table, Uganda bagged two medals to end the games on a high.
Long distance runner, Joshua Cheptegei bagged Uganda’s first medal at the games when he won the 10,000m race for men.
Clocking a time of a time of 26:43.14, the Ugandan runner beat Ethiopia’s Berth Aregawi who clocked 26.43.44 and USA’s Grant Fisher who clocked 26.43.46 in a thrilling contest.
The time of 26:43.14 was an Olympic record for the gold medal.
Steeplechase runner, Peruth Chemutai won Uganda’s second medal when she bagged silver.
Chemutai clocked a time of 8:53.34 at the Stade de France on to win silver in the women’s 3,000m race.
These two medals meant that Uganda was among the few African countries that were able to collect medals at the 2024 Olympics.
Uganda only came second to Kenya in the medal table in the East African region with other neighbours, Tanzania, Rwanda and South Sudan not bagging anything.
On the African continent, the Pearl of Africa only came behind Kenya, South Africa, Ethiopia, Algeria, Egypt, Tunisia and Botswana .
