Uganda Cranes star joins French side, Bordeaux
Uganda Cranes playmaker Travis Mutyaba has joined French football club, FC Girondins de Bordeaux in Ligue 2.
Mutyaba joined the six-time French Ligue 1 winners on a three-year contract as a free agent after previously terminating his contract with top Egyptian Premier League side Zamalek FC.
“I am grateful to God for the opportunity to join Girondins de Bordeaux. Thanks to the team management for believing in me and warm welcome I have received and for who have made this possible. I hope to add to the history of this great club and help get it back to the top of French football,” Mutyaba said.
Mutyaba in May this year became the first Ugandan player to win the TotalEnergies CAF Confederation Cup when his team Zamalek defeated RS Berkane from Morocco.
He previously played for St. Marys Kitende and St. Andrew’s Kaggwa Gombe High School as well as the Vipers Junior team.
Mutyaba also played for record champions, SC Villa in the 2022/2023 season before joining Georgian side Dinamo Tbilisi.
He has played in several under-age categories including U-15, U-17, U-18 and U-20 before graduating to the senior national team, Uganda Cranes.
He has played at several CECAFA Junior tournaments with the recent where he guided Uganda U-18 team to win the regional CECAFA U-18 Championship in Kisumu, Kenya last November.
Mutyaba also helped Uganda’s U-15 team win the CECAFA U-15 Championship held in Eritrea in 2019 and the CECAFA U-17 Championship held in Rwanda in 2020.
