Uganda’s Jacob Kiplimo nominated for world athlete of the year award
Ugandan long-distance runner, Jacob Kiplimo has been nominated for the 2024 men’s out of stadium athlete of the year award by World Athletics.
According to the list released recently, Kiplimo will battle with Yomif Kejelcha of Ethiopia, Benson Kipruto of Kenya, Brian Daniel Pintado of Ecuador, and Tamirat Tola of Ethiopia for the award.
The nomination for Kiplimo is based on his stellar performance in 2024 including standout performances achieved at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, World Athletics Cross Country Championships as well as Label Road races.
The Ugandan runner finished eighth in the 10,000-meter race at the 2024 Paris Olympics after clocking a time of 26 minutes and 46.39 seconds.
Kiplimo later won the World Cross Country Championships gold in Belgrade, Serbia, and the Valencia 10km race.
The Ugandan world record-holder finished second at the Copenhagen Half Marathon, a World Athletics Gold Label road race after clocking a time of 58:09 in September.
