Uganda’s Salim Magoola in line for goalkeeper of the season award in South Africa
Ugandan footballers have continued to impress in the South African Premier League where they ply their trade.
With former Cranes skipper Denis Onyango winning his 10th premier league title this month, another Ugandan player is up to winning something big after Salim Jamal Magoola was nominated in the goalkeeper of the season awards.
Jamal, who currently plays for Richards Bayside previously played for KCCA FC back home in Kampala but has been lined up against Mamelodi Sundowns’ Ronwen Williams and Supersport United’s Ricardo Goss for the shot stopper of the season award in the South African premier league.
Jamal has impressed in his first season at Richards Bayside with a stellar performance that has seen him get 11 clean sheets in 26 games.
Of the 11 clean sheets, six have been at home and five away whereas the 27 year old also won the player of the month award for September.
The stellar performance for the goalkeeper has also seen him return to the fold in Uganda Cranes team where he featured in the African Nations Cup qualifying game against Tanzania, for the first time since March 2021.
“My first season with a new club in the DSTV Premier League and the tough second round we are facing. Just know I am grateful for being recognized,” Jamal tweeted upon getting the news of his nomination.
