University youths urged to exhibit leadership skills, be enterprising

Youths drawn from various universities in Uganda have been urged to exhibit leadership and entrepreneurship skills if they are to achieve their dreams.

The call was made by various speakers during a one day youth conference, organized by Lions Clubs of Uganda District 411B in conjunction with Lions Clubs International.

The guest speaker, Lion Dr. Deus Kamunyu Muhwezi, the former Makerere University Staff Association chairman told the youths that they need to be exemplary in their conduct if they are to transform society.

“You should set an exemplary conduct by transforming the society you live in to engage in income generating activities, through skills development and good leadership if you are to be good future leaders”, said Kamunyu.

He urged the young people to avoid being derailed by selfish leaders whose intentions are to cause chaos and anarchy in the country, where the youth end up paying the price heavily.

Lions Clubs of Uganda District 411B Governor John Bosco Ntangare, said youth are not only the strength of a nation but also pillars of socio economic transformation for a better Uganda.

“This means, you should actively participate in environment conservation by planting trees in your communities to mitigate effects of climate change, take part in health camps to eradicate diabetes and preventable blindness plus assisting vulnerable communities access food and other essential commodities”, he said.

The young people were given a platform to demonstrate their skills that included; working in teams, effective leadership, and communication skills in the course of the workshop.

The Lions Clubs Vice District Governor, Dr. Stanley Bubikire told the youth to go and conquer the world with no fear and take on the opportunities available for their career growth.

Bubikire promised to organize similar forums for the youth to exchange their ideas on various issues that affect them.
