Crested Cranes forward, Viola Nambi joins Italian top flight club, scores on debut

Crested Cranes forward, Viola Nambi has joined Italian top flight club, Pomigliano Calcio Femminile.

Nambi was signed by the club from IFK Kalmar in Sweden and put pen to paper on a two-year contract in Italy.

A day after joining the Italian top flight club, the Ugandan forward was named in the starting XI against Juventus FC Women in the Italian Serie A Women’s League.

The 28-year-old Uganda forward made an immediate impact by scoring on her debut, only 11 minutes after kick off.

However, Nambi’s team went on to lose 2-3 to Juventus Women.

Pomigliano FC are 9th on the log in the Italian Serie A.

Nambi previously played for St. Mary’s Kitende in Uganda before joining  Vaxjo DFF Women FC and later IFK Kalmar both in Sweden.

She was part of the Crested Cranes final squad that competed in the 2022 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco.

She is also in the Crested Cranes squad that is preparing for a doubleheader with Algeria in the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.

The first leg will be played in Kampala on September, 26, 2023 and the return led played six days later in Algiers.
