Uganda’s Fauzia Najjemba nominated for Africa’s young player of the year award

Uganda’s Crested Crane star, Fauzia Najjemba has for the second time in a row been nominated for the Confederation of African Football(CAF)’s young player of the year award.

The 20-year-old striker will compete with the Ghanaian duo of Comfort Yeboah and Mary Amponsah as well as the Nigerian trio of Deborah Abiodun, Esther Ajakaye and Oluwatosin Demehin.

She will also have to beat competition from Morocco’s Nesryne El Chad, Senegal’s Hapsatou Diallo, South African Thubelihle Shamase and Tanzanian Winifreda Gerald for the award.

Najjemba guided the Crested Cranes to the second round of the Olympics qualifiers before being eliminated on a 3-2 aggregate by Cameroon a few weeks ago.

She joined the Russian club earlier this year.

Najjemba was last year nominated for the same award but fell short of glory .

Commenting about this year’s nomination, Najjemba was ecstatic.

“I am deeply grateful for the nomination,” she posted on her X.
