Graduates urged to be innovative

The Minister for ICT and National Guidance, Dr.Chris Baryomunsi has urged graduates to always be innovative in whatever they do as they join the job market.

“As you leave the confines of this institute and embark on diverse paths, I urge you to carry forward the values instilled in you during your academic journey – the values of integrity, innovation, and a commitment to continuous learning. Embrace change, for it is the catalyst for progress,” Dr. Baryomunsi said.

“Be bold in your pursuits, for innovation thrives on courage and perseverance. Furthermore, remember that with knowledge comes responsibility. The power vested in you as graduates of this institute brings with it the duty to utilize your skills ethically, for the greater good of society.”

He was speaking during the graduation ceremony of 268 students from the Uganda Institute of Communication Technology(UICT) in Nakawa, Kampala.

The minister told the fresh graduates that graduation means they are equipped not just with diplomas but with a wealth of knowledge, expertise, and a profound understanding of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) that they should use to benefit communities.

“In this era, where technology is the cornerstone of progress, your role as graduates in this field is pivotal. In an era where technology propels progress, your role as graduates in this field is of paramount importance.”

“Your contributions, as graduates, hold the promise of transformative innovations that will revolutionize industries, empower communities, and drive us towards a more connected, efficient, and inclusive world.”

The Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of ICT, Dr.Aminah Zawedde told the graduates that now is the time to put into practice, whatever they have learnt.

“In all you do, have a flexible, agile and adaptable mind-set, constantly questioning and improving your current thinking and keeping yourselves relevant by upgrading your skills aligned with the current ICT trends. Change is hard, but with change comes opportunities. If we are ready to embrace these new opportunities, we will be able to ride the wave of change to achieve greater success for our great nation Uganda,” Dr.Zawedde urged.

She also asked the fresh graduates to have integrity in whatever they do.

“ Be men and women of integrity in wherever you will be going and whatever you do. No one, no one can take away your integrity. Only you yourself can give it or surrender it away. “
