Local celebrities who have pursued academic excellence
On August 8, 2024, Robert Kyagulanyi aka Bobi Wine graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Law at Cavendish University.
The youthful politician said he could not finish the course within the stipulated four years because of his hectic schedule, but he is glad he made it.
“In August 2016, after much procrastination, I attended my first lecture in Law School at the International University of East Africa. Seven years later, I have graduated with a Bachelor of Laws Degree from Cavendish University Uganda,” said Bobi Wine, who also went on to praise his wife, Barbie Kyagulanyi, and friends who have encouraged him over the years.
Bobi Wine joins other celebrities who have graduated over the last five years at various institutions, underscoring that education still remains key to their success.
In 2023, musician Joseph Mayanja aka Jose Chameleone graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in International Relations and Diplomacy from Cavendish University. So, he is an OB of Bobi Wine. Chameleone had pursued his degree in five years due to his busy schedule.
Top female singer Spice Diana graduated from Makerere University with a bachelor’s degree in Industrial Art in 2018. She organized a small bash for her loyal fans at which she promised to do graduate studies. Some people are still waiting to see if she will fulfil this promise.
Did you know that Wyclif Tugume aka Ykee Benda is a chemical engineer? Before he went into music full throttle, Tugume was given a scholarship to pursue a degree in Chemical Engineering at Anaba University in Algeria. He graduated with a first-class degree in 2015 but decided that chemical engineering was not his passion. He is one of the top musicians.
Yet here is another interesting one. Judith Babirye, a renowned gospel singer who later became a politician, recently graduated with a Master’s of Arts degree, specializing in Migration and Diaspora studies. She got the honors from a Canadian university.
