Things to do during Lent period
The season of Lent lasts 40 days and reflects the 40 days that Jesus Christ spent fasting in the wilderness after his baptism by John the Baptist at River Jordan, before beginning his earthly ministry which lasted three years.
One can do a number of things during the lent season
Read the Bible
During the Lent season, believers are advised to read the Bible every day. Here, they can interact with daily scripture readings and find extra resources to help them grow in their faith.
This is a great time to read about Jesus’ ministry, death, and resurrection.
Pray
Lent is a season to pray to God and continue reflecting on one’s faith. Whereas some pray in the morning when they wake up but also at night when they are about to go to bed, Lent offers a special time to pray throughout the day.
Before you go to a meeting or give a presentation in class, you can pray for help and guidance from the Holy Spirit. Or while your children are napping, you can ask for peace and patience for the rest of the day. Or you can simply thank God for what He has done in your day so far such as hearing good news at work or finding rest in the middle of the day.
Some people like to set an alarm or reminder to pray at the start of each hour.
As you’re walking the streets, driving the highways, or waiting for a meeting to start, pick out a person who appears to be in need and pray for that person
All this can be done during Lent season.
Donate for charity
Lent is a period that requires one to takesome time to research on a cause or people group one is passionate about.
This helps one find an organisation or charity to which they can donate money or other items like clothes and shoes to help that cause or group of people.
Random acts of kindness
One can choose to do 40 days of random acts of kindness or a couple per week.
Random acts of kindness include paying for someone else’s meal in the drive-thru line, bringing coffee to work for your team, baking goodies for your neighbors, and writing a nice note for a server that did an awesome job and leave a nice tip!
A small act of kindness can make a difference in someone else’s day.
Service at church or with a local organization.
You can also give your time and talents by finding a place to serve. Try serving on a team at church for several weeks such as a student ministry team or a communications team.
Take something on — 40 days of letter writing, 40 acts of kindness, 40 phone calls to the important people in your life.
Think about a habit that has kept you from being whom God is calling you to be. Consciously give up that habit for Lent.
