UBOS to employ 12,000 youth for national census
At least 12,000 youth will be employed to collect data and conduct household interviews during the 2024 national population census, the Uganda Bureau of Statistics (UBOS) has announced.
The nationwide exercise will embrace digital technologies to gather crucial demographic and socio-economic information, aiming for increased accuracy and efficiency.
The census will benefit government in multiple ways. On one hand, it will provide the government with comprehensive data to inform policy decisions, resource allocation, and development planning. On the other hand, it will empower Ugandan youth by offering them valuable training and temporary employment opportunities.
Dr. Albert Byamugisha, UBOS’s board chairperson, said the 12,000 youth will be recruited and trained to operate digital tablets, conduct household interviews, and assist with data collection and processing.
“This experience will equip them with valuable skills in technology, communication, and data analysis, enhancing their employability prospects in a rapidly evolving digital landscape,” he said.
Currently Uganda is estimated to have around 45 million people with an annual population growth rate of 3%.
