Ugandan footballer joins Turkish side

Ugandan youngster, Roger Mato has joined Turkish side, Şanlıurfa SporKulübü from13-time Uganda Premier League champions, KCCAFC.

Şanlıurfa SporKulübü plays in the Turkish Football Federation First league which is the second level of the Turkish Football League System.

KCCAFC announced the player had joined the Turkish side after both teams reached an agreement for the transfer.

Mato joined KCCAFC in 2021 and was the team’s topscorer last season with 11 goals and four assists in the Uganda Premier League.

He also scored 4 goals in Uganda Cup.

“Everyone at the club thanks Rogers Mato Kassim for the memories over the years and wishes him the best at his new club,”  KCCAFC said in a statement.

In the past few months, several Ugandans have joined paid ranks at clubs abroad.

In March,21-year- old Frank Ssebuufu joined New York Red Bulls II, a football club in the United States where fellow Ugandan, Steven Sserwadda, plies his trade.

Earlier, two Ugandan youngsters, Abdul-Aziz Kayondo and Allan Enyou were signed by Spanish second tier club, CD Leganes Canteray Escuela joining a legion of many other Ugandan youngsters signed by European and American clubs into their ranks.
