A total of 32 youths will be the beneficiary of the first cohort of Ugandans who will trained in construction with an emphasis on employable skills to the international standard.

The two week training program will see youths get basic construction theory, practical construction and Chinese proficiency skills in a bid to prepare them to work anywhere in the world conducted by China Communications Construction Company (CCCC).

Fan Xuecheng, the Minister Counselor of the Chinese Embassy in Uganda said the skills to be attained by the youths will enable them to actively participate in the country’s development.

“We know that many talented young people in Uganda are looking for good jobs but many companies find it hard to get qualified and trained employees. This project will help train Ugandan youths to ably compete for jobs,” Xuecheng said.

“We hope that the 32 will lead the way to become driving forces to expedite Ugandan development but also participate in cooperation and exchange programs between China and Uganda.”

The State Minister for Labour and Industrialization, Esther Anyakun hailed the Chinese company for the training program which will help equip Ugandan youths with the necessary employable skills in construction.

“It is motivating that these youths will not be working as casual labourers but people with skills for self-reliance that even if this company leaves the country, Ugandans will still have benefitted in form of skills that can enable them work anywhere in the world,” Anyakun said.

Paddy Ngobi, a surveyor and one of the Ugandans to benefit from the program said the training will open up opportunities for Ugandans in the international job market.

“This transformative journey will help open opportunities for us to work anywhere in the world. It will also pave way for innovations and improvement in skills in the construction sector that can be employed back home,” Ngobi said.
